Commissioned by Fax Foundation, Alumilux & Metall-lux, manufacturers of high-spec aluminium & glass for specialist constructions, Penique delivered an inflatable at the biennial architecture symposium, Somni ’18.
Occupying the entire warehouse of the Banyoles factory, the light pink inflatable contrasted with the raw and austere limiting forms beneath.
Achieving a complete transformation while retaining and revealing elements of the factories’ identity, dirt and factory grit was simultaneously relegated to a temporary void created between floor and plastic. The covered machines, working the day before, were assimilated into the landscape and given a new sculptural identity.
The resulting transformation provided a platform for a presentation by RCR Arquitectes, recipients of the 2017 Pritzker Prize for Architecture, attended by three hundred national architects.
